Mein Student Letter

Dear Hostfamily,

first of all I want to thank you for the possibility to spend ten month with you, in the USA. I've been thinking about spending one year in the USA for a long time and it became a dream for me. Now I'm so happy and gratefull, that I have the chance to fulfill my dream. Therefore, in the following letter I want to tell you something about me, my family, hobbys, friends and my life.

I'm Dina and I'm sixteen years old. I live in a litte village, named H*******, in the north-west of Germany. It's approximately 450 km (= 279.617 miles) away from Berlin and the next city is O******** (25km = 15.5342 miles), and nearly 2000 people live here.
My school is the **********Gymnasium which is in a village not far away from home, so I can go by bus and I need approximately 20 minutes to be there. It's a very small and friendly school. You know everyone there which gives the school a special and agreeable or familiar atmosphere. My favourite subjects are English, French and Music. I'm interested in other languages and i like to speak them. Subjects like chemistry, maths or physics i don't like very much.

I'd like to introduce my family to you, too: There is my Mother Petra (47), my father Heiko (53) and my brother Janis (22)and we live together in a house with a beautiful garden. My mother is a mailcarrier and my father is a motorist. My brother works as a joiner. We don't have arguments very often, so our relationship is very good. For me, family is very important and we can talk about everything. That's what I love of my family. Of course, I will miss them but i want to make new expierences and I'm looking forward to get to know another country.

On a typical weekday I wake up at 6am and get ready for school. I go to school by bus and I stay there until early afternoon. After school I have lunch with my mother, because my brother and my father work the whole day. After lunch I do my homework and then i meet my friends, play the flute or dance with my dancing group. In the evening we have dinner with the whole family and afterwards I learn for school or just relax. At 10pm I go to bed.
At the weekend I prefer to sleep longer. Then I do something with my friends. They are very important for me, too. We go to the cinema, go shopping or just talk or laugh together. Sometimes we do a girls sleepover which means eating pizza, watching some movies and talking about everything.
Once or twice in a week I dance with my dancing group „LadyLike“ and I enjoy it very much! The girls are great and we have a lot of fun together. We dance a mixture of hip hop and other types of dancing. When I dance I forget my problems and it's a kind of freedom for me. Sometimes we do something in the evening, like bowling or eat pizza and talk about the crazy things which we expierenced together.
I would like to play tennis or volleyball, too. In my nearness are two tennis clubs and also a volleyball team but they aren't very good. But I played it in school and I enjoyed it very much, maybe I could join a club in America, too.
Besides I love taking pictures or to reading exciting books. I like reading lovestories or thriller but it depends as I'm interested in various subjects. Sometimes I read english books, too.I enjoy to watch english series, too, for example 'Grey's Anatomy' or 'How i met your mother'.
I didn't have the chance to travel very often but I'm very interested in other countries and their cultures, people and lifestyles.
I'm very open minded and I like to try new things. I'm spontanious, like a typical girl, who wants to have fun. I always want to get to know new people and I'm very helpfull. But I can be chaotic, too.

In my future I would like to have a wonderful husband and a house with a garden. I don't know if I want to have children or what kind of job I would like to do. However, as I am a creative person I would like to become a digital media designer. I had a practical training as a digital media designer and i enjoyed it very much.
All in all I want to live in the present and want to enjoy my life. My first and biggest aim is it to finish school - that's the most important thing for me!

It's very interesting for me to do an exchange because you can watch many American movies and I want to know what it's like in America and if the movies give a realistic picture of America. The most interesting thing for me is to attend an American Highschool and to live in an Ámerican family. I want to get to know the American school system and the different cultures and lifestyles. But of course in the front is the improvement of my English.
I'm very open minded and I like meeting new people. So I hope i will enjoy my stay in your family.
I hope you would like to get to know me now. I will be very happy, if we see each other some day.
Best wishes
